Communication
Communication can be clear or vague, open or guarded, honest or dishonest – it can even be spoken or unspoken.
Communication
We all know how important communication is but in the busyness of our day we frequently forget! Communication can be clear or vague, open or guarded, honest or dishonest – it can even be spoken or unspoken.
Virtually everything we do in the company of others communicates something.
- 7% Verbal
- 38 % Vocal (volume, pitch, rhythm, etc.)
- 55% Body movements
Couples communicate at many different levels every day. The intention of the communication is important. Knowing what our partner needs during each exchange is helpful so we listen effectively.
- Small talk – I need to exchange information, straight forward and clear
- Sharing thoughts and opinions – I need to be heard and validated, please just listen to me.
- Sharing a specific problem – I want you to fix this, please
- Emotional Intimacy – Need to share and understand each other’s deeper perspective
